2005-0003 — Switch Error 2005-0003: What It Means & How to Fix It

Your Switch couldn’t download software — usually a connection or eShop snag interrupting the download.

Multiple causes Last reviewed June 13, 2026

What this error means

Error 2005-0003 appears when you can’t download software from the eShop. The download didn’t complete, generally because the connection dropped or the eShop service was busy. It’s a download-pipeline issue; if you use a microSD card, leaving it in place until downloads finish matters.

Most likely causes

Cause How likely Fixable at home?
Connection interrupted during download Very likely Yes — steady the link
eShop service busy or under maintenance Likely No — retry later
Stuck or partial download Possible Yes — restart / re-queue
microSD card removed mid-download Possible Yes — keep card inserted

How to fix it

Ordered easiest-first. Try the next step only if the error comes back.

  1. Restart the console

Hold POWER three seconds > Power Options > Restart, then let the download resume from the HOME screen.

  2. Check your connection

System Settings > Internet > Test Connection. Move closer to the router or restart it if the link is weak.

  3. Keep the microSD card inserted

If your console uses a microSD card, don’t remove it until all downloads finish — pulling it mid-download corrupts the transfer.

  4. Check the Nintendo network status

Visit support.nintendo.com/networkstatus. If the eShop is under maintenance, wait and try again later.

  5. Restart the download

If it stays stuck, delete the partial download from the software’s icon and start it again once your connection is stable.

When it's not your fault

Signs the problem is on Nintendo's side — or in the hardware — rather than anything you can change:

  • The eShop or download services show maintenance on the network status page.
  • It coincides with a major release when servers are busy.
  • Other downloads on your network are also crawling at the time.
When to contact Nintendo: If downloads keep failing with a strong connection and healthy network status, contact Nintendo Support. Check the official Switch server status page first, then reach Nintendo support if the error persists.

FAQ

Why did my download stop?

Usually a dropped connection or a busy eShop. A restart and a stable connection let it resume; for a stuck item, delete the partial download and start again.

Can I remove my microSD card during downloads?

No — keep it inserted until downloads finish. Removing it mid-download can corrupt the data and cause this error.

Is wired better on Switch?

A wired LAN adapter (in TV mode) is more stable than Wi-Fi for large downloads and reduces interruptions like this.
