What this error means
CE-35486-6 means the console couldn’t read the disc: “the disc format may be unsupported, or the disc may be corrupted.” Either the disc itself is the problem (smudges, scratches, an unsupported format) or the PS4’s drive is struggling. Testing a second known-good disc quickly tells you which.

Inspect and clean the disc
Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth from the centre straight outward — never in circles. Check for scratches that catch a fingernail.

Confirm the disc is supported
The PS4 plays PS4 game discs, DVDs and Blu-ray films, but not PS3/PS2/PS1 discs or audio-only formats it doesn’t support. An unsupported disc reads as unreadable.

Reinsert and restart
Eject, restart the PS4 fully, and reinsert the disc straight and level — a mis-fed disc reads as corrupted.

Try a different disc
Sony’s key diagnostic: if a second clean disc plays fine, the first disc is the problem; if nothing reads, the drive is the suspect.

Test in another player if possible
A disc that fails on the PS4 but plays elsewhere confirms the disc is fine and the drive needs attention.

Is it the disc or the console?
Test one other clean disc — that single check answers it. One bad disc means clean or replace; several unreadable discs mean the drive.
Can the PS4 play PS3 or PS2 discs?
No. The PS4 isn’t backward-compatible with PS3, PS2, or PS1 discs. Inserting one produces a read error like this.
Will disc resurfacing help a scratch?
Light marks sometimes buff out with a microfibre cloth; deep scratches usually don’t. Resurfacing services exist, but replacement is often cheaper.
